Learning analytics and collaborative groups of learners in distance education: a systematic mapping study

Advances in information and communication technologies have contributed to the increasing use of virtual learning environments as support tools teaching processes. Virtual platforms generate a large volume educational data, analysis this data allows useful discoveries improve assist institutions reducing disqualifications dropouts distance education courses. This article presents results systematic mapping study aiming identify how mining, analytics, collaborative groups been applied environments. Articles were searched from 2010 June 2020, initially resulting 55,832 works. The selection 51 articles for complete reading order answer research questions considered group inclusion exclusion criteria. Main indicated that 53% (27/51) offered intelligent services field education, 47% (24/51) methods techniques environments, 21% (11/51) focused on logs, 5% (3/51) presented identification creation groups. also identified interest clusters with highlights terms recommendation systems, analysis, e-learning, e-learning platform management system.
